Seminar On: "High-Rise BuildingFires in the Middle East –

The Risks and Challengers for Property Insurers"

Dubai – RODA Al BUSTAN HOTEL - (Al Rashidya Ballroom) (Al Bustan Rotana Previously)

Wednesday 22/3/2017

The Emirates Insurance Association in conjunction with Clyde & Co LLP has the pleasure to invite you to attend the upcoming seminar focusing on the insuranceissues arising from high-rise fires in the Middle East.

There has been an increase in the frequency and severity of high rise fires in the GCC region in the last few years, and this looks likely to continue into the future. A recent study found that more than 65% of high rise buildings in the UAE were built with external panels containing combustible materials.Clyde & Co's insurance team has advised insurers and reinsurers on the property and business interruption losses arising from all the major high profile fires in Dubai in recent years.

Ourseminarwill focus on a case study which looks at the complex legal issues arising from a significant fire at a high-rise building in Dubai, including policy coverage issues under a Property All Risks Insurance policy, evidential issues relating to civil defence and expert reports, practical and reinsurance considerations, jurisdiction over coverage disputes, as well a review of subrogated recovery possibilities in the UAE and the wider international context.  This is particularly topical given the imminent updates to the UAE Building Codes.

The seminar with bring together the leading experts in this field, includingloss adjusters(Cunningham Lindsay), fire investigators (Burgoynes) and forensic accountants (MDD), who will provide their perspective on the challenged posed by such claims. The following topics will be covered and discussed:
